Tell Me Why

UPDATE: THEY ARE KILLING THE TREES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you live in Oklahoma City? Wish your potholes would be repaired? Need money for your school to buy books? Perhaps you would like to have more police or firemen in your neighborhood. Sorry. The money is going to build curbs in my neighborhood. No, we don't want them. The gently curved edges to the street are a nice touch in an old neighborhood, and they make the streets seem wider and, yes, kinder.

The city has been moving ever closer to my house these past few months. Behind them they have left unfinished jobs, dirty streets and mangled yards. Tree roots have been severed. Mysteriously, they have put in high curbs on the corners that once sloped ever so gently. How does this help the disabled? HOW???

A few weeks ago the crew severed a gas line next the the elementary school, causing quite a bit of trouble for everyone. They still haven't cleaned up that mess and it is impossible to go for a stroll down that street because of all the holes they have left where the sidewalk should be.

When they make it to our yard, they are sure to kill the three-story high pecan tree at the end of our drive. We are mystified. What is the meaning of it all?

Well, they have repaired some of our potholes, which on 50th is kind of like putting Band-Aids on balloons, but apparently that comes out of a different section of the budget.

And it would be nice if they'd put my fence back up, especially since they've apparently finished burying that new sewer line.
