Here are a few more photos from VBS. James and I were the directors this year, but my primary responsibility was the scenery, so that is what I photographed most! I had a lot of help. I was wondering if my vision would ever be realized. It was a grand vision. I have to say, the talented people who helped exceeded my dreams and it all came out even better than I ever hoped. For instance, look at that beaver's den!! Isn't it just fantastic? One friend made a PVC frame for us in his garage. I covered it with brown sheets, nestled it into the snow and put out a call for sticks and twigs. The actors asked for a door so they could actually go inside, and within seconds, they had a door. Another friend brought the sticks and twigs and turned it into a masterpiece. Then, I flocked it and another friend added glitter so it would shimmer in the light - like real snow does.
The lamppost is a cool story, too. In January I was shopping the after Christmas sales for Narnia and I found that lamp marked down to $12. One of the bars was broken off, so when I was checking out, they took another $2.00 off. Of course, in the story, the White Witch has broken the bar off, so I would have had to saw it off anyway! Super fantastic!
This is the White Witch's throne. If you click on the photo and look closely, you'll see it has plexiglass shards of ice all over it. I never would have thought of it, but a friend on the team did. She spent an afternoon cutting plexiglass out in the hot summer sun for that throne. Amazing. You'll also notice the Pepsis and Ding Dongs, our replacement for Turkish Delight and hot cocoa.

These are the delightful Beavers sitting down for a cup of tea. That is a real stump. Weighed a ton!!

Detail on Aslan's throne. Another group effort, but most of the credit goes to Jean for her painstaking attention to detail. The wallpaper came from a neighbors trash bin. He installed wallpaper for a living and occassionally discarded his leftovers. This tent took two double rolls. Each originally cost $54. Free for us! Yay!

Aslan's tent looked awesome. Two guys made a 4-foot tall platform, another guy built a PVC frame, a friend sewed the fabric and I ironed on the lion crest and covered the platform. The curtains were 12 feet tall!! We couldn't have afforded such a luxurious tent except that Hancock Fabric Store was going out of business and I got the whole bolt of fabric at 80% off!

Doesn't Aslan look awesome? I put a call out for a costume designer one day at church and a woman I had never met approached me after church with a drawing of her vision. We dug through our costume closet at church for materials and I gave her some fur. She showed up a week later with this. Aslan lost a few nails during the week, but we decided they were merely retracted. The medals the children are wearing were made out of silver boxes we got from Dillard's when we married 12 years ago. And check out Mr. Tumnus. He walked around on his toes like that the entire time. Amazing perseverance!
