Hollow? Hallowed? Or Just Plain Evil?
Please take a moment to read this essay about Christians and Halloween. I've got a little too much to do tonight to check her facts, but I find it interesting. I've been questioning the celebration of Halloween for years and have grown increasingly uncomfortable with it. This essay is an interesting slant. What do you think?

Thanks for visiting my blog. Just for clarification purposes, because I would hate to take credit for someone else's work, I didn't write the article. I merely copied it from an email. And I did not check out the information in the article. But it does bring up some interesting ideas, does it not? It is sometimes difficult as Christians to determine where we should draw a line about certain things. I think it is really important for people to see what the Bible has to say, pray about it, and then follow their conscience.

Thanks again and have a blessed week.

Some of what is in the e-mail is true but not all. Halloween has Druid origins and it is has been a long time since I have read up on it and so my facts are a little fuzzy. However, because of my previous research I quit celebrating Halloween in 1987. Here is a link to a Mormon website that has a some facts listed on it. (P.S. I'm not Mormon) That's all I could find on such "short" notice. ;+ ) http://www.watchman.org/occult/samhain.htm

BTW... I enjoy your blog.

I agree in part with TJ; as I have read that Halloween did have its roots in Druid or at least pagan customs. But, I also think the opinion in the original post makes some very good points. Whether they are historically accurate or not, Halloween is what we make of it; whatever hang-ups we decide to attach to it. We are Christians - we participate in Halloween for a night of fun, mystery and celebration.

Wait till Christmas rolls around and then we can debate how coincidental it is that the Feast of Saturnia (Saturn Worshippers most beloved holiday)which predated Christianity was coopted by the Romans out of the original pagan holidays of the period. Of course Constantine coopted Saturnia and presto ... Christmas is born. But hey, Christmas is fun for believers and non-believers as well ... just like Halloween. Have fun, don't sweat the mystic stuff ... life is just life, enjoy. :)
